More and more pilgrims are using sandals to do the Camino de Santiago in summer. This type of footwear is recommended for the hottest months (from June to September), where the risk of rain is very low.
Of course, you cannot use any type of sandal, but some brands designed specifically for trekking (for example Keen and Teva). The advantage of this type of footwear is that it is much lighter and avoids having to wear the foot enclosed throughout the Camino de Santiago.
Our recommendation is to carry, in addition, walking shoes. Sandals can be worn during some sections or to rest your feet.
